OOC: Headcanon for The Games

- Born in 1917
- Three younger sisters: Harriet Rebecca 'Becca' Barnes, born 1919; Abigail Adams Barnes, born 1922; Dorothy Madison Barnes, born 1925
- Met Steve Rogers when he was ten and Steve was nine, jumping into a fight on Steve's side against bullies
- Moved into his own apartment soon after reaching adulthood, shared it with Steve after the death of Steve's mother
- Worked a lot of odd jobs, manual labour, largely supporting himself and Steve when Steve was unable to work due to his health problems
- Was drafted into the U.S Army in 1943

Since the Captain America: The Winter Soldier provided only hints of information for exactly what happened to Bucky after he fell from the train and before Hydra assigned him to assassinate Nick Fury this is a post for me to set down exactly what headcanon I'll be playing from in case it ever comes up in game.

Bucky Barnes as The Winter Soldier: A timeline WIP
- 1945: Bucky falls from the train into a deep ravine defending Steve from a Hydra operative in pursuit of the capture of Arnim Zola, he is subsequently proclaimed missing in action by the SSR.
- 1 to 2 days after the fall he is found, barely alive and missing his left arm by Soviet forces, surviving only due to the experimentation performed on him by Zola during his time as a Hydra POW (presumably infusing him with a version of the Super Soldier Serum)
- Hydra agents in the Soviet Union take Bucky into their possession under the cover of using him for the benefit of the USSR and continue the work Zola began, possibly advised by Zola from encoded messages as the scientist is currently a prisoner of the SSR.
- Bucky's memory is damaged by the fall to begin with and through brutal conditioning methods (torture both psychological and physical) the first rudimentary programming of The Winter Soldier is implanted into his brain
- After initial testing Bucky is put into the cryogenic chamber for the first time.
- Sometime in the 1950's he is awakened to begin Hydra's work as an agent for chaos and encouraging the continuation of global conflict to fit their ultimate goal. The Soldier's work is done chiefly under the name of the KGB to ensure the continued secrecy of Hydra's survival (explaining the calling card of his bullets and the red star design on his arm)
- By this point Zola is employed as a scientist for the fledgeling SHIELD and able to take a more direct hand in the Soldiers work. The memory wiping technology is pioneered and the policy of wiping the Soldier's memory after each mission put into practice due to evidence of the initial stages of recovery from his amnesia emerge
- As implied by the movie over the next several decades the Soldier is employed in many key assassinations through history, escalating conflicts and stalling any progress towards peace Hydra feels would damage their plans. Over two dozen assassinations are credited to him by intelligence agencies around the world, the real number is much higher
- After the fall of the USSR in 1991 the Soldier is moved in secrecy back to Hydra controlled facilities in the United States where he was stored except when completing missions
- Dec. 17th, 1991. The Soldier successfully kills Howard and Maria Stark in a staged car accident after Howard began to suspect Hydra's presence within SHIELD
- The Soldier is sent to kill a nuclear scientist being escorted by Natasha Romanoff, knocking their vehicle off a cliff and then subsequently shooting through Natasha to kill his target after she pulled them clear of the wreckage
- Present day: the events of The Winter Soldier occur
